Mandate, Functions and Objectives

Mandate
The Cotton Development Trust Fund [CDTF] was established by resolution passed in April 2006 by the cotton industry stakeholders in Tanzania, and affirmed by memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tanzania on the one hand, and Tanzania Cotton Growers Association and Tanzania Cotton Association on the other hand, as an independent service delivery institution for the cotton industry.

Vision
The vision of CDTF is: A sustainable fund providing efficient services that make the Tanzanian cotton industry competitive and meet market standards.

Mission
The mission of CDTF is: To facilitate sustainable development of the cotton industry in Tanzania.

Institutional Objectives of CDTF

The main objectives of CDTF are:
(a) To strengthen cooperation and collaboration among cotton stakeholders to boost the position of the industry in the country.
(b) To enhance the capacity of the farmer to increase quantity and quality of cotton.
(c) To ensure timely sourcing, financing, and effective and efficient distribution of agricultural inputs for cotton farmers.
(d) To collect, assemble and process (analyze) information for decision making in CDTF and the cotton sector.
(e) To fund extension services through the Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) and Farmers Training Schools.
(f) To fund and monitor cotton research and development.
(g) To ensure steady flow of financial resources to the FUND
(h) To support cotton value addition initiatives at farmer level.
