About Textile Sector Development Unit

The Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) supports the government of Tanzania’s policy that aims to transform greater proportions of Tanzania grown cotton into higher value added textile and apparel products in the country.

To this end, in 2009, the TCB established a Textile Sector Development Unit (TSDU). This unit is part of the TCB and is situated in their Head Office in Dar es Salaam.

The TSDU plays a facilitative role and its functions include:
- aiding potential buyers of Tanzania made textiles and apparel to find local value chain manufacturers that could make the products they require. The TSDU has a comprehensive data base of the country’s larger (larger than 40 employees) producers.

To facilitate the Tanzania export drive the TSDU would work with Tanzania’s Board of External Trade (BET).

- helping potential investors who may be considering Tanzania as a manufacturing investment location. The TSDU is able to provide investors with details of the costs of doing business in Tanzania; of the incentives they may be eligible for; and of the market access privileges that any export orientated firm may enjoy.

The TSDU works in close partnership with the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) and the Tanzania Investment Center (TIC); and with local textile and apparel producers that are looking for joint venture partnerships.

- working with the Tanzania government and its parastatals by providing policy advice and research on the country’s textile and apparel sector.
- assisting textile and apparel firms with any queries that could make their business more efficient
